Well, this is technically my third attempt at having a blog site. I had another one through a different (unnamed) blog manager, but I didn’t really like how that one was set up, so I followed (like a sheep to the slaughter? or behind trusted guides?) Caren’s and Micah & Erica’s, examples by setting up shop here at wordpress.
The process has produced a few thoughts for me to ponder. Here are some examples.
1. Why is it so much easier to start and re-start than to stick to one thing? Am I letting myself off the hook by using formatting as an excuse? (Answer: probably so.)
2. I don’t necessarily enjoy the feeling of starting over. There is some feeling of loss in letting go of the (one) post that I wrote on the other site. At the same time, this means I can re-think what I want to accomplish in the writing of these things.
3. I like making a list. (Do I like checking it twice? No.) I don’t necessarily like writing the kinds of lists that require some checking off of items, but there is something awfully satisfying about knowing you’ve gotten things done. A lot of times I find myself making lists longer than I originally thought just so they can be justified. (One can’t have a two-item list, you know.)
4. It’s time to develop some new way of blogging that doesn’t exhaust me. When it takes me two hours to write two paragraphs because I want every word to be perfect, I know I’ve gotten a little obsessive.
5. I might be ready to really give this a go, but what if I’m not? What if I wake up tomorrow and decide I need a new site to manage my blogs because wordpress isn’t good enough as a way of deferring the responsibility of addressing item #4? (This is the moment for “powering through”, as they say.)
6. Is it going to be worth the trouble of typing things out if no one ever reads it? (Answer: sure. The point is to become more practiced at expressing myself, which doesn’t necessarily require feedback. If you ever have any, though, feel free!)
7. I should resolve to write about the mundane as much as, or more than, the exciting. If I only write about what I think is exciting, you might never see another post again.
8. I hate Times New Roman font. I hate looking at it as I type all of this.
Okay, for now that’s a good enough list. Catch you all later!
I miss you! Just reading this made me think, I wish Steph was here. You’d have lots of exciting things to blog about in New York
I think you can change the font just by changing your layout… not sure but you could try it.
I’m glad you are writing here. I like reading your stuff.
